INDIA: Om Raut is reportedly in talks to helm Shaktimaan, the legendary Indian superhero. The renowned director might bring the beloved superhero’s live-action adaption to theatres.

The 90s generation first saw our desi superhero, which emerged as a popular show in India before Marvel and DC. The Indian superhero fandom has exploded with enthusiasm since the announcement of the Shaktimaan’s adaptation to the big screen via the parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Om Raut to direct the Indian superhero?

Following Ranveer Singh’s speculation to play our desi superhero, reports indicate that Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior filmmaker Om Raut has been approached by studios to bring Shaktimaan to the big screen. It’s not surprising that the renowned director will direct the nostalgic superhero, given his background in VFX-heavy blockbusters.

Om Raut presented the historic Maratha warrior in a heroic light in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, skillfully blending fact and enthusiasm. According to Mid-Day, the studios have approached the legendary director about taking over the director’s chair. However, Sony Pictures Entertainment has not provided a confirmation.

Shaktimaan was an Indian action superhero TV show aired on DD National from 1997 to 2005. Mukesh Khanna and Dinker Jani developed it, which captivated the younger generation’s craze at the time; it was a widely celebrated phenomenon among the 90s kids.

Sony Pictures India made the announcement

Earlier in February, Sony Pictures India announced that our desi superhero would be adapted for the big screen, which marks a dream come true moment for the Indian superhero community. The studio also announced that a trilogy would be released in theatres. Sony Pictures International has also acquired the character’s film adaptation rights.

Following the announcement, a teaser was launched on Bheeshm International and Sony Pictures India’s YouTube channels. The full teaser was entitled “Peoples Hero,” emphasising the Indian superhero’s widespread popularity.

The Movie will stick to its originality by maintaining the modern vibes. Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshm International is also involved in the project confirming that Shaktimaan will stay true to its source material. The film is also attributed to Brewing Thoughts Pvt. Ltd.
