INDIA: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar continues to be in the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The nonagenarian singer has been showing signs of improvement and was taken off the ventilator as a trial. Mangeshkar’s family has shared her health status on Thursday via a twitter post.
The statement tweeted by Lata Mangeshkar’s official handle reads, “Lata didi continues to be in the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai under treatment. She has been given a TRIAL of extubation (off the invasive Ventilator ) this morning. Presently, she is showing signs of improvement but will remain under observation of the team of doctors headed by Dr Pratit Samdani. We thank each one of for your prayers and good wishes.”
The Indian nightingale had contracted COVID-19 and pneumonia on January 11. Mangeshkar had mild COVID-19 symptoms but was taken to ICU as precaution because of her age.
As per the reports, the singer is showing signs of improvement. Her family members are sharing her health updates regularly. Meanwhile, they have asked the media and citizens to not spread fake news about her health condition.
Addressing the spread of fake news her family tweeted, “There is a marginal improvement in Lata Didi’s health and she continues to be in the ICU. Kindly refrain from spreading disturbing rumors or falling prey to random messages regarding Didi’s health. Thank you”
Several political leaders and well wishers also requested people to not spread wrong news related to Mangeshkar. Known as the ‘Indian Nightingale’, Mangeshkar is an iconic singer and recipient of the Bharat Ratna award and several other honorary awards. In a career spanning over 60 years, she has sung more than 30,000 songs in several languages.
