Skill India Mission A National Need: PM Narendra Modi

While addressing the country's youth on World Youth Skills Day, Modi emphasized the significance of skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling among the Indian youth

INDIA: On the sixth anniversary of the Skill India Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling among the Indian youth. While addressing the country’s youth on World Youth Skills Day, Modi said that the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic increased the significance of this day.

“The mission of skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling the youth should continue relentlessly. Making India Aatmanirbhar should be the core focus. This mission needs to be expedited as there is going to be a huge demand for re-skilling due to fast-changing technology.”

According to the government data, over 1.28 crore youngsters were trained under the project. But only 56% of the candidates have managed to get job placements after completing their courses. The salary bracket for the employed youth ranges from Rs 10,000 ($134.1) to Rs 18,000($241.3) per month.

Modi said that more than 12.5 million young persons have been trained under Pradhanmantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna.

Modi said that learning should not stop with earning. “Only a skilled person will grow in today’s world–this applies to both people and countries,” he added.

Modi also talked about programs like ‘Going Online As Leaders’ -GOAL are helping tribal population with areas like art and culture, handicraft, textiles and digital literacy among tribal areas leading to entrepreneurship development among the tribal population.

Meanwhile, India has reported 41,806 new Covid-19 cases, 39,130 recoveries and 581 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry on Thursday stated.
