Suzume is set to release in Hindi

When it comes to any anime features’ release in India, PVR Pictures and the Indian anime community have teamed up to bring multitudes of movies to theatres. It all started with Dragon Ball Super: Broly in 2019 and continues the legacy with Makoto Shinkai’s Tsuzume.

On April 5, PVR Cinemas released the official Hindi dub trailer of Suzume on its social media handles and YouTube. The trailer dub is decent, with an ensemble voice cast details yet to be revealed. Makoto Shinkai’s film will be released in Hindi dub and original Japanese dub with English subtitles on April 21.

As the anime movie is only a few weeks away from its release, the promotion is going on with all the high notes. Recently, a fan screening of Suzume was held on April 9. The screening event also provided anime posters to fans, signed by Shinkai.

Suzume fan screening was held at the following locations:

  • Mumbai
  • Pune
  • Delhi
  • Gurgaon
  • Noida
  • Banglore

The event witnessed a massive number of Indian Otakus attending the fan screening. Besides anime fans, Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was also present at the anime event. PVR shared a glimpse of the screening on its Twitter handle.

Following fan screening, another piece of exciting news has arrived for fans. Yesterday (April 10), PVR announced that Makoto Shinkai would arrive in India for the premiere of Suzume.

PVR Tweeted, “Legendary Japanese filmmaker @shinkaimakoto will be visiting India for the grand premiere of #Suzume! We would like to thank @CWF_EN, @JFNewDelhi & @JFF_India for making this event possible. #MakotoShinkai #JapanFoundation #JapaneseFilmFestival #CoMixWaveFilms #PVRPictures #PVR.”

Makoto Shinkai replied to the tweet with a delightful message. The filmmaker wrote, “Can’t wait to meet fans in India!”

The grand premiere of Suzume will be held on April 20 in Mumbai at PVR Citi Mall Andheri West. The distributors also announced a Q&A session with Shinkai, a dream come true for any anime fan. Tickets for the premiere are yet to be announced, but if we look at the posters, it reveals that booking will be open soon.

Suzume’s box office potential in India

Talking about the potential of Suzume at the Indian box office, it holds high expectations from fans. The anime film’s debut in the Hindi dub holds a high chance to attract the family audience to big screens, besides Indian Otakus.

Another factor that lands as a beneficial element is Suzume lands as a full-length film that is not a follow-up of any series. It will make things easier for non-anime viewers to witness the magical world of Shinkai.

If everything goes as planned, then Suzume will be able to beat the box office record of Jujustu Kiasen 0, which bagged approx. Rs 5 crores at the Indian box office. An all-time high record for any anime feature released so far.

Only time will tell what fate has encased for Suzume, but one thing is sure: we will get a chance to witness Shinaki’s film on big screens in the coming weeks, which is exciting for any anime fan.
