UNITED STATES: Meta Verified, a new testing service. It will allow Facebook and Instagram users to pay in order to have a verified account.

The testing will commence in New Zealand and Australia this week. It will spread to other countries as well, soon rolling out to the United States and other countries, as per Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO.

The subscribers will get a badge denoting that their account has been verified with a government ID. Some of the other perks include extra protection against impersonation, easy access to customer support and more social visibility.

According to the company, this could be a wonderful opportunity for services looking for content creators to expand their business on the platforms.

Meta will use government identification in order to verify a user’s account and give a blue badge. The prices for the same would be $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on the Apple and Android operating systems.

These blue badges were previously given to only prominent celebrities and businessmen. In a statement posted on Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, Zuckerberg wrote, “this new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services.”

There would be no alterations on the Facebook and Instagram accounts that have been verified. Users who are only 18 years of age will be permitted to subscribe.

It is unclear how Zuckerberg would price Meta Verified in countries where users are not financially equipped to pay $12 per month or in countries that are mainly cash-based limiting options to get the money to Meta.

Meta observed the advertisement revenue decline for the first time in 2012 after the California-based group went public.
