INDIA: India is currently reigning high on pride, as two films from the film industry made it to the Oscars. The Elephant Whisperers and RRR bagged the prestigious title at Academy awards.
Following the Oscar win, The Elephant Whisperers’ producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The director and producer are moving to places to cherish their historic win.
The Elephant Whisperers is made on a small budget and shot in a small village. Kartiki Gonsalves directed the Academy award winning documentary short film and Guneet Monga bankrolled the project.
The short film showed the bond between humans and an abandoned elephant calf in a Tamil Nadu sanctuary. Surprisingly, it’s India’s first win in the Documentary Short category.
Now, PM Modi opted to tweet and posted a series of pictures with the team and their Oscar trophies. He wrote, “The cinematic brilliance and success of The Elephant Whisperers have drawn global attention as well as acclaim. Today, I had the opportunity to meet the brilliant team associated with it. They have made India very proud.”
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur also met Guneet Monga, Kartiki Gonsalves and Monica from Netflix at his Delhi residence.
He wrote, “The power of India’s storytelling is unmatched! #ElephantWhisperers is a ‘trunk‘ full of heartwarming, socially relevant & cinematographically enthralling masterpiece! Delighted to meet Guneet & Kartiki; & learn abt thr amazing journey while making ths spellbinding documentary.”
The Elephant Whisperers is a heartwarming story of the couple, Bomman and Bellie, who is working selflessly for the orphaned elephant, Raghu, to look after.
The film shows how the couple’s journey inspired their relentless work to ensure Raghu’s recovery and survival, which is a benchmark of true love.
