Major budget thrillers, despite having intense storyline and positive responses, faced hefty drop. In 2022 Bollywood struggled at the box office except few films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2.

On the other hand South Indian films especially Telugu and Kannada movies like RRR and KGF 2 dubbed in Hindi collected a record breaking numbers.

5 Bollywood movies that failed at the box office in 2022

Shamshera

Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor marked the Karan Malhotra’s directorial return after Hrithik Roshan starrer Agnipath (2012). The larger-than-life periodical movie from Bollywood was marketed as a a big budget feature.

Initially, the movie created hype amongst the audience due to Ranbir Kapoor’s arrival in the movie after a long time. But, the storyline failed to impress the masses and thus flopped at the box office. According to multiple box office stats the film with a budget of Rs 150 crores collected only Rs 63 crores.

Bachchhan Paandey

Bachchhan Paandey featured Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon and Arshad Warsi in lead roles. The film is a remake of the Tamil film Jigarthanda, which was released in 2014. Surprisingly the Tamil version is also a revised version of a Korean film A Dirty Carnival.

The Bollywood movie was made on a budget of Rs 165 crores but failed to collect half the amount at the box office. The action comedy movie offered nothing new for the audience because of the same repetitive storyline.

Runway 34

Runway 34, a non-fictional movie featured prominent actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Boman Irani, Akanksha, and Rakul Preet in the lead roles. The film was released on 29 May 2022 and failed in the ticket booth. The movie was previously named Mayday but it was later renamed.

The movie showcased a incident involving a jet airway flight that has to land at Kochin international airport. Due to bad weather and other difficulties, it landed in Thiruvananthapuram with the pilot’s eyes shut; thus, the pilot and co-pilot charged into prob.

The story offered a strong presence with Ajay Devgn’s camera wizardry but failed to attract audience to big screens. With a budget of Rs 65 crores the film bagged Rs 54 crores. However, the movie bagged high praises from viewers on its OTT release.

Jayeshbhai Jordar

Jayeshbhai Jordaar starred Ranveer Singh, Boman Irani and Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey in lead roles. Ranveer’s screen presence in the film speaks aloud for itself that some how dragged the film in its initial run.

However, the movie struggled to survive without a proper storyline and failed to grab the audience attention. The social comedy feature was made with a budget of Rs 86 crores and earned only Rs 17 crores at the box office.

Anek

Anubhav Sinha’s directorial Anek promised a political-thriller with a touch of action from trailer. The Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Bollywood film offered a unique storyline but it just lasted for 7 days in the theater and failed to bagged Rs 10 crores on average.
