Akhil Bhartiye Shikhsha Samagam is Set to Refresh the Indian Education System

The Ministry of Education along with the UGC and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has launched several policy initiatives like an academic bank of credit, multiple entry-exit, multidisciplinary and flexibility in higher education.

A three-day mega educational event Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) is to be held in Varanasi tomorrow, July 7, 2022. The event is an initiative by the Ministry of Education along with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The summit will have several sessions for three days from July 7 to July 9, 2022. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi would inaugurate the summit. The event is being organised on the occasion of the second anniversary of NEP 2020, which was launched by the current Modi-led government to make the youth of the country future ready focusing on human values, life skills and traits of Indian civilization.

 The summit aims to bring together over 300 Vice-Chancellors and directors from public and private universities, educationists, and policymakers of the country to contribute to the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP)2020 across the country in the upcoming years.

Academicians and officials here will focus on the need to formulate policies to make the youth of the country future-ready to be able to face a highly uncertain and volatile future that’s coming up. The knowledge most of the professional degrees provide will not suffice for our children that are still in school. The summit aims to formulate a new educational ecosystem that’s more global and futuristic.

This summit, as per an official statement, will facilitate a platform for leading Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) both government-owned and privately owned to come together and make focus on a better future for our youth. During the event, the intellectuals will discuss, deliberate and share insights on strategies, success stories and best practices to implement in the NEP, 2020.

Explaining the reason to conduct this three-day programme, the official statement said: “One of the reasons for conducting the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam is that the higher education ecosystem in the country spans centres, states and private entities. Therefore, extensive discussions are required to take the policy implementation further.”

In June this year, Prime Minister Modi addressed a seminar of Chief Secretaries of all the Indian States in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. At that summit, the Chief Secretaries shared their experiences over the issue and suggested reforms. ABSS is next in the series of such events.

In the last two years, many universities have adopted the education reform suggested in NEP 2020, however, there are still some universities that are yet to adapt to the changes. The summit and later the government would help them do so.

The Ministry of Education along with the UGC and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has launched several policy initiatives like an academic bank of credit, multiple entry-exit, multidisciplinary and flexibility in higher education. Also, some regulations which aim to boost online and open the doors of distance learning.

Moreover, the ministry has also worked on reviewing the national curriculum framework to make it more in sync with global standards, promoting multi-linguality and Indian Knowledge Systems and making both a part of the educational curriculum, mainstreaming skill education and promoting vocational learning.
