Gunmen Attack Military Checkpoint in Niger Eliminates One Soldier

In the aftermath of the bandit attack on the Nigerian Law School in Abuja which claimed the lives of three soldiers, the Nigerian Army said that 30 of the bandits who took part in the attack had been killed

NIGERIA. Niger State: Gunmen suspected to be members of Islamic States West African Province (ISWAP) have attacked 102 Guard Battalion checkpoint around Zuma Rock in Niger State along Abuja/Kaduna expressway and killed one soldier.

It was reported that the incident occurred around 9 PM West African time, resulting in heavy traffic gridlock as troops repelled the attack.

According to Suleja Local Government Area (LGA) Information Officer Jibril Bisallah, “There was an attack on a military checkpoint around the Zuma Rock by suspected armed men. It led to a lot of gridlock on the road, but they were repelled, and one soldier died. Men of the Nigerian Army have been mobilised to the scene of the incident and normalcy is gradually returning to the area”.  

However, in the aftermath of the bandit attack on the Nigerian Law School in Abuja which claimed the lives of three soldiers, the Nigerian Army said that 30 of the bandits who took part in the attack had been killed.

Earlier on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari held a meeting of National Security Chiefs at the State House, during which he reportedly gave security agencies additional instructions on how to forestall the raging insecurity.

Meanwhile, two soldiers and a civilian have reportedly lost their lives in a car accident in the Obadeyi area of Lagos State.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident involved a truck and a Mitsubishi saloon car with registration number RNG396AA.

Reports indicate that the truck was being driven in the wrong direction and had a head-on collision with the car with four occupants, including two Army officers.

Oke-Osanyintolu, further stated that “Unfortunately, out of the four occupants of the car, two male Nigerian soldiers and one female citizen lost their lives to the fatal crash while the last male adult was treated by LASAMBUS and taken to the hospital”.
