INDIA: Amritpal Singh, the leader of the pro-Khalistani group “Waris Punjab De,” ran away from Punjab police on Saturday. He was charged with breaking the strict National Security Act (NSA). The traitor was riding a motorbike in Jalandhar district when Punjab police chased him, but he gave them a slip.

Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh and driver Harpreet Singh surrendered near a gurdwara in the Mehatpur area in Jalandhar late Sunday night. As per reports, Amritpal’s native village, Jallupur Khera, in Amritsar, is under police security, where his father, Tarsem Singh, has been detained by police.

However, as per Imaan Singh Khara, who filed the Habeas Corpus writ petition, Amritpal Singh has been arrested at Shahkot Police Station. According to the advocate, the police want to kill Singh in a “fake encounter”.

But, Punjab Police tightened security across the state, shut down the internet connection in the state for a long run, and conducted flag marches. According to reports, 34 more supporters have been arrested, and four men have been transferred to a jail in distant Assam. The neighbouring state of Haryana also remains on high alert.

SSP Jalandhar Rural, Swarndeep Singh, in his statement, said, “Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh’s uncle and driver surrendered before the Punjab police last night.” Moreover, a huge manhunt operation was initiated to catch the criminal.

Meanwhile, cops seized his (the suspect’s) car, where they recovered firearms and dozens of live cartridges. The intelligence bureau has found that Amritpal Singh was misusing drug rehab centres and a gurdwara to hide weapons and prepare youths to carry out suicide attacks.
