INDIA: In a recent development, a complaint was registered against three men for allegedly taking bribes by taking the name of AAP MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi.
The Delhi Police’s Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) apprehended a relative and personal assistant of Tripathi for taking illegitimate money from a party worker, promising his wife a seat in the upcoming municipal corporation (MCD) elections.
Reportedly the three alleged men are Om Singh, Shiv Shankar Pandey, and Prince Raghuvanshi; amongst them, Singh is the brother-in-law of Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, and Pandey is the personal assistant.
The complaint was raised by Gopal Khari, a party worker, who had paid a bribe in Lakhs on behalf of his wife, Shobha. According to Khari, he paid Rs 35 lakh to Tripathi, the Model Town MLA, and Rs 20 lakh to Rajesh Gupta, the Wazirpur MLA, but his wife was offered the seat.
According to ACB chief Madhur Verma’s statement, the complainant approached the ACB on Monday with the complaint that he had worked for the AAP since 2014 and that on November 9, he had met AAP MLA Tripathi to ask for a seat for his wife in Kamla Nagar’s ward 69.
According to the complainant, the MLA requested a bribe of Rs 90 lakh for the situation. The complaint is made with proof of audio and video recordings. This occurred when AAP released the list of candidates on November 12, and Shobha’s name wasn’t mentioned there.
According to Khari, he gave the full money in instalments with an initial sum of Rs 25 lakh, which he collected from friends and relatives, and then he handed over nearly the entire amount in a mall in Model Town.
However, after the announcement of the seat, he was requested to wait till the next year’s election so he will get a complete reimbursement but Khari reported a complaint.
