Federal Government Decries the Slaying Of a 39-Year-Old Nigerian in Italy

NIGERIA/ITALY: The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned the killing of a 39-year-old Nigerian, Alika Ogorchukwu, by an unnamed Italian in Civitanova, Marche Province, Italy.

The incident which occurred on the 29th of July this year saw Ogorchukwu, a Nigerian national beaten to death.

In a statement signed by the Spokesperson, Nigeria Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Francisca K. Omayul said that the Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has directed the Nigeria Ambassador to Italy, Nfawa Omini Abam to take it as a matter of urgency to work with the Italian authorities to ensure that justice is served, and the perpetrator is brought to book.

Omayul further expresses her deep sorrow that FG is sad about the unfortunate incident that claimed the life of a Nigerian man in Italy.

Omayuli stated that it is for the embassy to talk to the relevant Italian authorities to ensure that justice is served to prevent a repeat of the incident.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria condemns in the strongest possible terms the unjustifiable killing of  Ogorchukwu and calls on the Italian government to immediately bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous act,” the statement said.

“Accordingly, the Federal Government of Nigeria has directed its Embassy in Rome, Italy to remain seized of the unwelcome development and work together with the relevant Italian authorities to ensure justice is done urgently to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate incident,” Omayuli added.

While commiserating with the victim’s family, the government urged Nigerians living in Italy to exercise restraint as the law takes hold in the case.
