INDIA: India displayed its sporting skills at the Asian Games 2023, clinching seven medals across multiple disciplines, affirming its position as a formidable force in the Asian sporting arena.

Athletics: Ancy Sojan leaps to silver

Ancy Sojan Edappilly stole the limelight by securing a silver medal in the women’s long jump, achieving a personal best leap of 6.63 meters. Her remarkable performance on her Asian Games debut was a highlight of the day.

Additionally, the Indian quartet of Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi, Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh, and Subha Venkatesan clinched silver in the 4x400m mixed team relay, setting a new national record.

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary and Priti Lamba added to India’s medal haul, earning silver and bronze medals, respectively, marking a splendid day for Indian athletes.

Chess: Men’s team dominates

The Indian men’s chess team, featuring Vidit Gujarathi, demonstrated its prowess by defeating Kyrgyzstan 3.5-0.5 in round 4, solidifying their second-place standing in the standings.

In contrast, the Indian women’s chess team faced a formidable challenge, losing 1.5-2.5 to China in round 4. Nevertheless, the Indian contingent continues to be a strong contender in chess at the Games.

Table Tennis: Historic bronze for Women’s Doubles

Indian table tennis made history with Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee, securing a bronze medal in the women’s doubles event, marking India’s first-ever women’s doubles medal in table tennis at the Asian Games. The thrilling 4-3 contest against DPR Korea was a testament to their resilience.

Squash: Ghosal advances to quarters

Saurav Ghosal, India’s squash ace, showcased his dominance with a resounding 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 victory over Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait, securing a place in the singles quarterfinals. This victory brought Ghosal’s Asian Games medal tally to eight.

Hockey: Indian Men’s team dominates Pool A

The Indian men’s hockey team continued its remarkable run at the Asian Games 2023, defeating Bangladesh 12-0 in their final Pool A match. Led by Captain Harmanpreet Singh, the team won all five group games, netting an impressive 58 goals while conceding only five. This victory secured their spot in the semi-finals, leaving arch-rivals Pakistan behind.

Kabaddi: A thrilling tie for Women’s team

In an exciting match, the Indian women’s kabaddi team, two-time Asian Games champions, battled to a 34-34 tie against Chinese Taipei. This marked the first-ever tie for an Indian kabaddi team at the continental meet, with both sides displaying exceptional skills and determination.
