SII CEO Adar Poonawalla has requested US President Joe Biden to lift the embargo on raw materials required for the production of COVID-19 vaccine.

The Union Government has allowed the Mumbai-based Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited to produce “Covaxin” following technology transfer from the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech Corporation. The decision is expected to give a boost to vaccine production.

Maharashtra has imposed section 144 and night curfew from April 14 till May first given the surge in COVID-19 cases. Besides a Rs 5476 crore package has been announced to give relief to poor people and additional medicare.

The Union Government has banned “Remdesivir” an anti-viral drug, which was being sold up till now in the black market for a heavy price.
