INDIA: After a tumultuous journey in India, BGMI, the Indianized version of PUBG Mobile, has made a much-anticipated return to the Google Play Store. Android users can now download the game, signalling a positive development for gaming enthusiasts across the country. However, iOS users will need to exercise patience as they await the availability of BGMI on the Apple App Store.

The saga of BGMI’s ban in India began in August 2022, when the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) banned PUBG Mobile, along with 117 other Chinese apps. In response, Krafton, the publisher of PUBG Mobile, collaborated with authorities to reintroduce the game as BGMI with tailored changes to cater to the Indian market. Unfortunately, the game was banned once again shortly after its relaunch.

Undeterred, Krafton continued its efforts to bring BGMI back to Indian gamers. This time, they entered into a partnership with the Indian government, agreeing to a three-month monitoring period. During this time, authorities will closely observe the game to ensure compliance with set norms. As a gesture of cooperation, Krafton has made various modifications, including changing the colour of blood from red to green.

The re-entry of BGMI on the Google Play Store is a breath of fresh air for gaming enthusiasts. However, the game’s servers are currently unavailable, preventing players from engaging in gameplay at the moment. Nevertheless, the availability of the game for download is a promising step forward, and players are eagerly awaiting the moment when they can dive back into the battlegrounds.

While the Android community rejoices, iOS users will need to exercise patience. The Indian version of the game is yet to be released on the Apple App Store, leaving iPhone and iPad users without immediate access to BGMI. However, it is expected that Krafton will work diligently to make the game available to iOS users in the near future, ensuring that all gaming enthusiasts can enjoy the experience.

It is worth noting that the Indian government’s vigilance during the three-month monitoring period is critical. Krafton’s commitment to adhering to regulations and making necessary modifications demonstrates its dedication to ensuring a positive gaming environment in India. Any violations of the prescribed norms could result in another ban on BGMI, emphasizing the importance of continued compliance.

Presently, Indian gamers have two options for officially downloading BGMI. They can either sideload the app on their Android smartphones or tablets or opt for the recommended method of direct download from the Google Play Store. The game’s file size stands at approximately 750 MB, but with the inclusion of in-game content, BGMI may occupy over 3 GB of storage space on devices.

As BGMI gradually reestablishes its presence in the Indian gaming community, players eagerly await the day when they can once again jump into action. The reinstatement of BGMI on the Google Play Store marks a significant step toward resuming the thrill and excitement of the game, while iOS users anticipate their turn to join the battlegrounds. Only time will tell if BGMI can sustain a trouble-free run in India, fostering a safe and enjoyable gaming experience for all.
