Cambodia Register 981 New COVID-19 Cases

Around 8.02 million vaccines have been administered so far in Cambodia with 4.65 million people receiving their first dose

CAMBODIA: Cambodia confirmed 981 new COVID-19 cases on June 7 that pushed the overall infections to 57,103 so far. The Ministry of Health (MoH) said that the new COVID-19 infections included 716 local cases and 265 imported cases.

According to the reports, a total of 19 new fatalities had been reported. The total number of recoveries in the country has reached 48,974 with the total death toll reaching 798. Following other countries around the world, the country began its vaccination drive on Feb 10. Interestingly, China has been the key vaccine supplier in Cambodia.

Around 8.02 million vaccines have been administered so far with 4.65 million people receiving their first dose.

“Around 3.37 million people have completed the two-dose inoculation in Cambodia,” MoH’s secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said.
The country has planned to inoculate at least 10 million out of its 16 million population by November.

“We must act urgently, act responsibly together. The current COVID-19 tools and measures help confront new challenges if implemented effectively,” Li Ailan, World Health Organization representative to Cambodia, warned on social media.

With a total budget of $170 million to purchase vaccines, Cambodia has so far received over 12 million doses of vaccines. The vaccines include 4.2 million doses of Sinopharm, 7.5 million doses of Sinovac, and 324,000 doses of AstraZeneca under the COVAX facility.
