INDIA: The outspoken Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra set on at the BJP-led Gujarat government for releasing alleged convicts of Bilkis Bano’s Case. This entire incident took place on 3rd March 2002, when a five months old pregnant Muslim lady was brutally raped by 11 men. The victim was almost dead during the ongoing Gujarat riot.

The TMC MP is shaken by the premature release of the convicts. She took to her Twitter handle, for showing her lack of support for the decision made by the Centre. She writes,” How can justice for any woman end like this? Amit Shah? Narendra Modi? India? Indians?”

Moitra is in a state of repulsion, aggressively attacking the decision-making body, over the such settlement. She said, “Pregnant mother’s child was snatched from her belly and another child killed in front of her. These rapists and murderers are feted after being let out in the shortest possible time. And we are lectured on how to respect women?”

Moitra asked in another tweet which was an indirect reference to the Independence Day speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi where he urged people to pledge not to do anything that lowers the dignity of women. Adding more stress to her statement she said, “This nation had better decide whether Bilkis Bano is a woman or a Muslim.”

Balkis Bano released a statement by her lawyer showing her disconcertion with the decision. She said, “On August 15, 2022, the trauma of the past 20 years washed over me again when I heard that the 11 convicted men who devastated my family and my life and took from me my three-year-old daughter had walked free.”

The release of her victims makes her feel insecure and made an appeal to the Gujarat government to “undo this harm” and reimburse her right to “live without fear and in peace.”
