INDIA: In the investigation involving the Mahadev online betting app, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor. On October 6th, the agency requested that Kapoor should appear.
The investigation focuses on the money laundering activities of Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, the founders of the Mahadev betting app. As part of its investigation into money laundering, the ED already seized criminal proceeds totalling Rs 417 crore.
Ranbir Kapoor as a social media influencer, allegedly got payment in exchange for promoting and carrying out promotional activities on behalf of the Mahadev betting app.
According to reports, in addition to Ranbir Kapoor, some other Indian and Pakistani celebrities, including Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone, Neha Kakkar, Atif Aslam, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, are being investigated by the ED for attending Sourabh Chandrakar’s wedding in Dubai.
Prior to now, the ED carried out several raids in a number of places, including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bhopal, in relation to the Mahadev betting app and its suspected money-laundering networks. In the course of its investigation, the central agency has confiscated profits of crime totalling Rs 417 crore.
In order to engage in activities like online casinos and betting platforms, which are prohibited in India, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal created the app and website. Despite the fact that the app is prohibited in India, the duo nevertheless operates in a number of other nations.
According to reports, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal are currently in the United Arab Emirates despite Look Out Circulars being issued by the central agency and the Chhattisgarh police in August against both of the accused.
Due to the money laundering investigation in India, Sourabh and Ravi’s attempt to travel to Australia last month was unsuccessful.
