UNITED STATES: Rumours have been circulating about whether Elon Musk-led Twitter will reinstate the Twitter account of Donald Trump since his takeover of the company by tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Elon Musk has launched a poll asking Twitter users to reinstate the account of former President Trump or not.

The poll has received over 5,199,380 votes, with over 55% of respondents voting affirmatively for the reinstation of Donald Trump’s account with 21 hours remaining.

Over 216 thousand people have liked the tweet and retweeted his poll over 113 thousand times thus far.

The 51-year-old Elon Musk posted the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which roughly translates to “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” in another tweet.

Trump was removed from Twitter for good in 2021 for “the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Musk stated in May that he would lift Twitter’s ban on Trump. Twitter banned Donald Trump’s account following the attack on the US Capitol last year.

Musk’s most recent poll contrasts with what he had said earlier in the day. He stated that Twitter had yet to decide on the return of Trump’s account.

Elon Musk did not immediately reinstate Trump on the platform after he took over the microblogging site in late October.

A day after Elon Musk completed the $44 billion deal, he announced the establishment of a content moderation council.

According to the Twitter chief’s announcement, Twitter has reinstated the accounts of US comedian Kathy Griffin and academic Jordan Peterson earlier. In addition, the moderation team reinstated the Twitter account of the satirical website Babylon Bee.

Musk is also working on getting Twitter’s Blue Tick back. He said that the subscription service would be back on November 29 with verification, days after the microblogging platform stopped it temporarily because there were too many fake accounts.

In October 2022, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, purchased Twitter for $44 billion. He has faced heavy criticism for the radical changes at the social media company.
