INDIA: A criminal defamation case is filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his derogatory remark on PM Narendra Modi’s surname. The case has been registered by BJP MLA and ex-Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi, where Gandhi slandered the Modi community at a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in the 2019 national polls.

The case was filed against the Wayanad MP based on his controversial statement claiming, “Why do all the thieves, be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, or Narendra Modi, have Modi in their names?”

Now, Rahul’s counsel, Kirit Panwala, presented the final arguments before the court, stating, “We will today send a message to Rahul Gandhi to remain present on March 23 in the Surat district court.” Most probably, he would be present in the court.  “We will get confirmation on Saturday.”

As per the latest updates, the former Congress Chief had lastly appeared before the Surat court in the following case, filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 and 500 (dealing with defamation), in October 2021 to record his statement.

Moreover, Gujarat Congress spokesman Manish Doshi said in his statement, “We have full faith in our judiciary system and are sure that justice will be delivered.” “All senior Gujarat leaders, office-bearers, and party workers will stand with Rahulji.”

Now, the senior state’s Congress stalwarts, including Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Jagdish Thakor, legislature party leader Amit Chavda, AICC in-charge of Gujarat Raghu Sharma, and MLAs, were in Surat to welcome Gandhi in the state.

The pull and push fraction will continue between the oldest party, India, and the filing party. However, this is not the first time both parties have opposed each other, and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are also a reason for them to confront.
