INDIA: Following a personal request made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, India will supply 5 lakh (500,000) vaccines to Canada. On February 10, Trudeau called PM Modi and requested the supply of COVID-19 vaccines. Earlier, Canada had asked for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines on February 5 from Pune-based SII (Serum Institute of India).

According to the reports, the vaccine supply has been confirmed and an official announcement is on the way. In the coming week, the quantities of the supply and the delivery schedule will be decided. Earlier, Canadian PM Trudeau stated that Canada is buying 4 million Moderna vaccines from the US.

On Monday Adar Poonawalla, the chief executive of Serum Institute of India (SII) – the world’s largest vaccine maker – reaffirmed that commitment.

“As we await regulatory approvals from Canada, I assure you, @SerumInstIndia will fly out #COVISHIELD to Canada in less than a month; I’m on it!” Poonawalla said in a tweet, using the brand name under which Serum produces the shot developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca.

Along with Canada, the Indian government has promised to supply vaccines to the armies in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and other friendly countries. The supply to the armies of the countries has already begun through the Indian defense, which is reportedly a mixture of Covishield and Covaxine. The gesticulation will deepen the bonds of the countries and defense cooperation.
