INDIA: India’s government has announced that it will notify WhatsApp concerning the increasing issue of international spam calls. Such calls are regarded as an infringement on user privacy and an abuse of the message and calling services. Users have started posting lists of unknown numbers from various country codes on social media sites like Twitter, which has increased complaints about spam calls.

Digital platforms are in charge of maintaining the security of their users, according to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, and the government will deal with any claims of abuse or privacy violations. He said that messaging apps like WhatsApp should look into any spam-related issues, and the government will deal with any claims of privacy violations or other abuse.

Regarding spam calls and messages, according to Truecaller’s data for 2021, India is one of the worst-affected nations. India ranks ninth out of 20 countries surveyed for having the most of these bothersome and unwelcome spam calls victimised upon them.

WhatsApp has enhanced its artificial intelligence and machine learning systems to reduce the spread of false information and misinformation in India. According to the messaging app, its new regulations would cut the current calling rate in half and effectively reduce the spread of false information.

With approximately 500 million users in India, WhatsApp intends to keep up its efforts to uphold a secure online environment. The business has pledged to prioritise user safety awareness and education while also taking proactive steps to weed out dishonest users from its network.

However, scammers employ various techniques to trick users, and recent developments include intercontinental scam calls. By leaving a missed call, they tempt consumers to return their call or message and con them.
