INDIA: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge takes a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for announcing the inauguration date of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir in advance while addressing a rally at Tripura.

Ram Mandir has always been the center topic of discussion for the saffron party and now Shah confirmed that the sacred temple will be opened in January 2024, the same year of the Lok Sabha elections.

This made the opposition slam centre for focusing more on such topics and ignoring major issues of the country like inflation and unemployment.

The present Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge directly criticized Amit Shah’s statement at a rally in Haryana’s Panipat on the sidelines of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Kharge said, “Who are you to make such an announcement? Are you the pujari or the mahant of the Ram temple? Let the mahant, sadhu and sant say it. You are a politician. Your job is to keep the country secure, ensure law and order, ensure that people get food and give the price for farmers’ produce. That is your job.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party has raised the topic of Ram Mandir reconstruction since 1990, making it a key agenda of their campaign. Next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will seek a third straight term and following the same year the inauguration date is finalized.

Thus, the Congress president raised a question at the Union Minister, “Tripura is holding elections. When (Amit) Shah arrives, he announces that the Ram Temple is being built and will be inaugurated on January 1st. Everyone believes in God, so why are you making an announcement about it now, during an election?”

Currently, Rahul Gandhi is conducting his Bharat Jodo campaign which aims to focus on the issues faced by youths, farmers and economically weaker sections of people.

The Congress leader initiated the Yatra to create an awareness of amazing people. Kharge said,  “It is not for votes. This is in the national interest, this is in your interest, this is in the interest of the farmers, youth, women and the Dalits.”
