Nashik: Two Fatal Accidents in a Single Day Shakes the City

INDIA. Mumbai: Twelve passengers, including children, perished and 31 others were injured when a bus coming from Yavatmal (Vidarbha) to Mumbai collided with a dumper and burst into flames in Nashik in Maharashtra on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred when a dumper proceeding towards Pune from Nashik collided at Mirchi Chowk in Nashik with a bus. Over 30 passengers were travelling by bus belonging to Chintamani Travels. The driver of the dumper was absconding.

After the bus collided with the dumper laden with coal, the diesel tank of the bus burst out, resulting in a huge fire in which some of the passengers suffered severe burn injuries.

Names of the deceased

The dead included: 10 males, 1 female, and 1 female child. The majority of the injured admitted to the Nashik district hospital are said to be in critical condition.They include: 16 males, 9 females, 3 female children, and 3 male children.

According to the list released by the Nashik Municipal Corporation, the injured people are from all over the state.They included: Yavatmal (12 passengers), Pusad (Yavatmal)-4, Kasara-1, Washim-04, Mumbai-6, Kinwat-1, Dombivl-1, and Jalna-2.

Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in this tragic incident.

“I visited the accident site and also met the injured. 12 people died. Rs 5 lakh to next of kin of deceased will be given and the seriously injured will be given Rs 2 lakh. Instructions have been given to officials to identify spots in Nashik where accidents occur frequently and take action. A high-level meeting will be convened to identify the places in the state where accidents happen frequently and where necessary action will be taken,” Shinde said.

The Nashik Guardian Minister Dada Bhuse, who visited the spot to assess the situation, said that all the injured are being treated in a Nashik hospital, and the government will bear all medical expenses for the injured.

Prime Minister Modi also announced ex gratia for the kin of the deceased.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of many people in a bus fire in Nashik. In this accident, I express my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery,” President Murmu said in a tweet.

In another incident, a passenger bus caught fire at Vani in Nashik on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, all the passengers escaped unhurt. The bus was proceeding toward the Vani Gadh.
