Nigerian Army Arrests Wanted Boko Haram Commander

NIGERIA. Borno State: One of the wanted commanders of the dreaded Boko Haram, Yaw Modu, alongside some high profile members of the Boko Haram sect has been apprehended by the Nigerian Army.

This was made known through the Army’s spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in Abuja on Thursday.

The Army also raided an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials base in Borno and Yobe States.

How He Was Arrested

About five years ago, the Army declared more than 100 terrorists wanted. This was published alongside their pictures.

The arrest of the commander comes when many of the terrorists members are surrendering themselves over to the rightful authorities.

Boko Haram and Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) have terrorised the North-east part of Nigeria and Lake Chad region for over a decade.

Items Recovered

 Nwachukwu added that the Army also recovered over 200 bags of fertilizer that was recently banned by the Federal government due to its explosive nature.

Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have arrested a high profile Boko Haram member and raided Boko Haram Improvised Explosive Devices factors hub in Damboa and Gashua Local Government Areas of Borno and Yobe States respectively.

These operational feats had been recorded following robust operations carried out by troops of OPHK.

Following a tip-off, a wanted BH/ISWAP terrorist, Yaw Modu, has been arrested along Damboa-Wajiroko road.

Similarly, troops have successfully busted a urea fertilizer syndicate known for supplying terrorists with IED materials.

The market is believed to be the infamous hub for IED materials for BHT/ISWAP.

In the sting operation conducted, a total of 281 50 kg bags of Urea was recovered from the warehouses in the market and two notorious Boko Haram distributors were also arrested.

Commending the vigilance and resilience of the Army, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has reassured them of his help in decisively tackling the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the country.
