Seven People, Including Two Nigerians Arrested on Charges of Drug Trafficking

INDIA. Mumbai: Seven persons, including two women and two Nigerians, were arrested on charges of illicit drug trafficking of narcotic drugs worth Rs 16.14 lakh from Mumbai and Pune by the Ghatkopar unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police on Monday and Tuesday.

The arrested accused included a mother (58) and son (31) duo, residing at the posh Kemps Corner area of South Mumbai, who used to procure the drugs from another woman residing at Marve, Malad in North Mumbai.

Acting on the tip-off that the woman and her son would be reaching the taxi stand at Dadar East in Central Mumbai to reach overnight to neighbouring Pune on July 10, a trap was laid, and the duo was arrested. The Mephedrone (MD) and cocaine were found in their possession. Subsequently, their house was raided, and more stock was noticed. 

The interrogation of the duo led police to another woman (57) operating from Marve, who was supplying drugs with the help of two Nigerian drug peddlers. The woman and the Nigerian drug peddlers were taken into custody after raiding their house, and the drugs were seized.

The interrogation of these accused led police to two more drug peddlers from Pune. They, too, were put under arrest, and the drugs were seized. Thus the police seized 58.20 grams of MD and 15 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 16.14 lakh in the international market. Besides, 02 Digital Weighing Scales were seized from the accused.

While arrested women were remanded to police custody till July 13, the arrested men were remanded to police custody till July 18. The offence (FIR No..62/2023) under sections 8 (C), 21(B), 22(B), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 (NDPS) was registered against the accused.

The offences- (FIR No.70/2015) with the Kandivali unit of the ANC and the (FIR No.09/2020) with Azad Maidan Police were registered under sections 8(C), 21, and 21 (B) of the NDPS Act against one of the Nigerians earlier.  

The operation was carried out under overall supervision of Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, Spl CP Deven Bharati, Jt CP Lakhmi Gautam, Addl CP Shashikumar Meena, DCP Prakash Jadhav by Police Inspector (officiating in-charge) Lata Sutar, PI Sangram Patil, API Raghvendra Londhe, PSI Nagesh Chikne, and staff.
