INDIA: The newly constructed Sansad Bhawan (Parliament House) is all set for its inauguration. Now PM Narendra Modi will dedicate the new building to the nation in the coming weeks.

Earlier the PM had laid the foundation stone for the building in December 2020. However, the second wave of COVID caused the work on the Parliament to be delayed.

As per officials, the revolutionary Parliament will reflect a strong ‘self–reliant India’.

PM Modi accompanied Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and made a surprise visit to the Houses of Parliament and interacted with the construction workers and the officials.

As per reports confirmed by the Lok Sabha Speaker, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the building will take place on May 28, 2023. It also marks the 140th birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar.

Talking about the building, PM Modi, in his earlier speech, said, “For many years, there has been a need for a new Parliament building. A new Parliament complex is required in twenty-first-century India. The old building served the country’s requirements; the new Parliament building will serve the country’s aspirations.”

As per reports, the new government property is an ultra lavish 64,500 square meter structure and part of the Central Vista project. The entire cost of the project is roughly estimated at ₹971 crore. This four-storey building is earthquake resistant and has the capacity to house over 1,200 MPs.

Moreover, it has two large halls for the functioning of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. A large library; a state-of-the-art Constitution Hall. Besides these, there will be offices for lawmakers and committee rooms for meetings.

As per the communique, the current Parliament building was finished in 1927 and is 96 years old. Thus it does not meet modern-day needs.

PM Modi unveiled the National Emblem cast on the roof of the renovated Parliament building in July of last year. The new office complex will also replace the Shram Shakti Bhavan and the Transport Bhavan.
