SPAIN: Real Madrid reclaimed first place in La Liga after defeating Real Sociedad 2-1, securing their fifth consecutive victory. The team, led by Carlo Ancelotti, maintained their unblemished league record, finishing with 15 points, two more than Barcelona in second place.
Real Sociedad took the lead after just five minutes when former Real Madrid player Take Kubo connected with Ander Barrenetxea for a goal. Kepa Arrizabalaga saved the shot, but it went off the rebound.
Federico Valverde scored his first goal of the season with a powerful effort from the edge of the box, evening the score in the first few seconds of the second half.
Valverde emphasized the importance of trying and capitalizing on opportunities, stating that the team never gave up and the goal scored in the second half provided motivation to keep going. He expressed his willingness to assist in any way possible.
The hosts subsequently took the lead in the 60th minute thanks to a spectacular header from Joselu off a Fran Garcia cross from the left.
“Any team in the league can hurt you; we have to correct things because we conceded a goal very early on,” Joselu added.
Joselu stated that the goals he scores and assists the team in earning points are what makes him the happiest. He continued by saying that the crowd at the Bernabeu Stadium helped the team turn the situation around.
On Wednesday, Real Madrid will host Union Berlin to begin their Champions League campaign before travelling to Atletico Madrid for their hometown competition.
