INDIA: An inmate named Prince Teotia (30), lodged inside a high-security cell at Delhi’s Tihar Jail Number 03, was allegedly stabbed to death by members of a rival gang during a fight that broke out Friday evening, in which five other inmates were injured.

Teotia was involved in 16 offences and was arrested by the Delhi Police in December 2022. He was found dead after a knife fight broke out between miscreants.

Allegations of murder have been levelled against the Rohit Chaudhary gang. Teotia died during treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Other injured patients have been admitted to the same hospital.

He was allegedly stabbed eight times with improvised knives made by sharpening spoons and the sides of aluminium plates, a prison official said, adding that a probe had been launched into the major lapse in security.

An offence has been registered with the Hari Nagar Police Station. Earlier on March 9, 2009, the jail authorities seized surgical blades and other material from the jail.

A fight broke out between two groups—Attaturk Rehman and Teotia—around 5 p.m. First, the groups had a scuffle, and after exchanging a few blows, they took out their improvised knives and attacked Teotia and his associates. He was reportedly caught by rival members Vinay and Bobby while Rehman attacked. In turn, Teotia attacked many with sharp-edged weapons. The security guards intervened and rushed the injured to the hospital.

Teotia, accused of several gang-related activities, was said to be an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and was involved in at least 16 cases, including those of murder, kidnapping, and extortion. He was said to be working for the gangster Rohit Chaudhary earlier. He was arrested for the first time in 2010 in a murder case.

After he had a fallout with Chaudhary, he was arrested by the Special Cell in October 2019. But months later, he was released on parole by the Delhi High Court on the pretext of his marriage. He jumped parole and formed his own gang in South Delhi.

Inside the jail, he was said to be recruiting new gang members to join him. He also joined hands with the Nandu gang to take revenge on the Chaudhary gang, the official said.

In December 2022, he was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police for his involvement in a case of carjacking in the national capital.
