INDIA. Mumbai: Bhojpuri actress Sapna Gill was arrested by the Oshiwara Police on charges of attacking cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car on Wednesday night and was remanded to police custody till February 20, Monday, by a local court on Friday.

While Sapna Gill was arrested on late Thursday, her friend Shobhit Thakur and six others were booked on charges of rioting and extortion.

A case has been registered by the Oshiwara police against the accused and seven others under Indian Penal Code sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and other offenses.

The dispute began when Sapna and her friends asked Shaw for a selfie in the Sahara Star hotel, located near the domestic airport at Vile Parle East. Shaw and his friend were dining in the hotel; however, since Sapna and her colleagues insisted on more selfies, Shaw did not oblige, and a security guard at the venue asked Gill and her friends to leave the venue.

Later, when Shaw left the hotel and was travelling with his colleague Ashish Yadav, he was allegedly chased down by Sapna, her friends, and some other people. They reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 from Shaw, threatening him with filing a fake police case.

Shaw was also manhandled by Gill. Ashish somehow managed to shift the cricketer to another car and ensure that he left safely.

Then Yadav drove his vehicle towards Oshiwara police station in the late hours. While proceeding, he observed that some motorcycles and a white car were chasing his vehicle.

While he was taking a U-turn near a petrol pump on Link Road, some people attacked his car with a bat and broke the windshield.

Gill and his colleague, Shobit Thakur, who were sitting in a car, abused Yadav and his friend. Yadav later filed a complaint against the accused. On Friday, Sapna claimed before a court that it was Prithvi who hit her.

Sapna, who is basically from Chandigarh, has worked in Bhojpuri cinema with stars like Ravi Kishan and Dinesh Lal Yadav.

She often shares content, which includes dance reels, fashion pictures, and more, on social media platforms. She has starred in movies such as “Kashi Amarnath,” “Nirhua Chalal London,” and, most recently, “Mera Watan,” released in 2021.
