Serial Bomb Blasts In Pakistan Kill 7 Children, Wounds 109

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Peshwar mosque and school

PAKISTAN. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshwar: After the Quetta bomb blast incident, Pakistan faced another bomb blast in Peshawar. The explosion ripped through a religious school in the Northwestern Pakistani city Peshawar. According to police and health officials, the blast took at least seven children and wounded approximately 109 people.

Explosive material found in the mosque

The blast occurred at 8:30 am PST at Speen Jamaat situated at Dir Colony. This mosque also serves as a religious school for the local community. Police Chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Ali Khan told to media that the explosion occurred while students recited the Holy Quran Majeed. The initial investigation found explosive material that someone left in the mosque.

The Provincial Police’s Bomb Disposal Unit Chief Shafqat Malik said that the device used was sophisticated and involved a timed detonation. The forensic team said the explosive material was about 5 kg heavy.

Television footage from the scene of the blast showed heavy damage to the interior of the mosque’s main prayer hall. However, the terrorist failed to spread fear in the general public as they just cleaned the mosque and attended Zohar Prayers.

Casualties including children, suffered mostly burn injuries

83 of the wounded were treated in Lady Reading Hospital, while 26 others were treated in Naseerullah Khan Baber Hospital. At this time five patients are in critical condition at Lady Reading Hospital. Most of the patients suffered burn injuries and were shifted to the burn unit. Most of the patients from Naseerullah Khan Baber Hospital have been discharged with minor injuries and fractures.

No one has claimed responsibility for this blast. Since 2007 Pakistan and the Tehreek E Taliban Pakistan (TTP) battled and TTP attacked different areas in Pakistan. The TTP mostly targeted Peshawar and the merged districts. They mostly targeted security forces.

Since 2017, the serial bomb blasts have not targeted civilians but war between security forces has been continuous.
