INDIA: South Indian director SS Rajamouli’s masterpiece ‘RRR’ is getting wide recognition and appreciation from all corners of the world. ‘RRR,’ which featured the two most megastars of the South industry, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, was recently honoured with the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Foreign Film. The film’s original track song, ‘Naatu Naatu,’ was declared the Best Original Song at the ceremony after the Golden Globe win.

Currently, the South Indian film industry is enjoying new heights of success, whereas the Bollywood industry deals with significant boycott trends that adversely affect box office success.

Among all this, an old RRR promotional event is making the rounds on social media, in which Bollywood director Karan Johar expressed his displeasure with Rajamouli’s choice of Jayantilal Gada over him for the Hindi rights to the blockbuster film RRR.

Johar’s Dharma Productions, one of Bollywood’s most reputed and biggest banners, distributed the Hindi versions of ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ and ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion.’ He expected to get the rights to RRR as well.

Thus, Karan asked Rajamouli why he didn’t allow him to present the Hindi version of his film. The South director gave a befitting reply and said, “I asked you to be the presenter of Baahubali films. With that, you made tens of millions of rupees. So, when a producer makes so much money, usually as a director, I expect some gifts, sir. And what did you give me? You called for your talk show. You gave me a phone and a Bluetooth speaker and wanted RRR Hindi’s rights.”

Rajamouli is regarded as one of the film industry’s most promising directors. Clearing his choice of selecting Pen Studios over Dharma Production, he said, “Sir, look at Jayantilal sir; he has promised me a sea-facing flat in Bandra after RRR is a success. Right next to your house.”

Taking a dig at Johar, he said, “You will be shocked to know what my producer, D. V. V. Danayya, has promised me… 1-acre plot in Jubilee Hills.”
