Tamil Nadu Launches Cloud Skills Initiative to Tackle Workforce Shortage

TNSDC and Cultus partner to roll out AWS re/Start training program for unemployed youth amid growing demand for cloud professionals

INDIA: In a move to address India’s widening cloud computing talent gap, the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) has announced a partnership with workforce development organization Cultus to roll out the AWS re/Start program across the state. The initiative aims to equip unemployed and underemployed individuals with entry-level cloud computing skills, in response to projections that India will require over 2 million cloud professionals by 2025.

The AWS re/Start program is a 12-week, full-time training course that offers instruction in foundational cloud technologies, including Linux, Python, networking, and security, alongside professional development and job readiness training. The program is free for participants and targets individuals without prior experience in technology.

According to the organizations involved, the collaboration is intended to not only improve employability among Tamil Nadu’s youth but also build a talent pipeline for India’s digital economy.

Nalin K. Singh, Co-founder and Managing Director of Cultus, emphasized the urgency of cloud skills development: “The demand for cloud professionals is increasing sharply. Through this program, we hope to create opportunities for individuals to access stable, well-paying jobs in the tech sector.”

A representative from TNSDC stated that the program aligns with the state’s broader goals of technological advancement and economic inclusion: “By investing in skill training for cloud computing, we are preparing our workforce for the evolving demands of industry and positioning Tamil Nadu as a competitive technology hub.”

Upon completion, participants will be prepared to sit for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam and will be supported in job placement through Cultus’ network of employer partners. The program is set to begin in July 2025.

The AWS re/Start program is part of Amazon Web Services’ global workforce development efforts and is aimed at expanding access to cloud careers for underrepresented and underserved communities.
