UNITED STATES. On 10 October 2020, TED an American media organisation, hosted an online event where top world influencers and thinkers came to share their views and stressed the urgency of climate justice.

TED, launched the global event named #JoinTheCountdown to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis, turning ideas into action. Their goal is “To build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 in the race to a zero-carbon world – a world that is safer, cleaner and fairer for everyone.” Energy, transport, material, food, and nature are their key focus areas. They are inviting experts to come and collectively answer these five pressing questions:

“How rapidly can we switch to 100% clean power?”

“How can we re-engineer the stuff that surrounds us?”

“How do we transform the way we move?”

“How can we spark a worldwide shift to healthier food systems?”

“How extensively can we re-green the earth?”

As per the UNEP 2019 report, greenhouse emissions hit a staggering 55.3 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2018. The release further states that to get in line with the Paris Agreement, emissions must drop 7.6 percent per year from 2020 to 2030 for the 1.5°C goal and 2.7 percent per year for the 2°C goal.

The #JoinTheCountdown movement is looking forward to collaborating with partners and supporting projects to combat this indefensible injustice. They would share a blueprint for a net-zero future at a Central Summit in October 2021. This initiative demands ambitious efforts of politicians, CEOs, entrepreneurs, activists, media influencers, and of all humanity, to turn individual actions into a mass movement
