Three to Four Years RI to Four Convicted in ‘Vyapam’ Case of Madhya Pradesh

INDIA. Mumbai: In a significant development, the Special Judge, CBI (Vyapam Cases), Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), pronounced sentences on Wednesday for four individuals involved in the controversial ‘Vyapam’ Police Constable Recruitment-2012 Examination (PCRT- 2012) scam.

The scam, an entrance examination, admission, and recruitment scandal that spanned back to the 1990s, was finally exposed in 2013, causing waves in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape.

The convicted individuals and their sentences include Jitendra Singh (Candidate) and Jaideep Singh (Impersonator), both receiving four years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 14,100/- each.

Additionally, Amit Sachan (Middleman) and Narendra Singh (Brother of Candidate) were sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment, each accompanied by a fine of Rs. 1000/-.

The case, initially registered by the CBI on August 1, 2015, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions given on July 9, 2015, was based on FIR No. 13/ 2013, originally registered at Police Station Dehat, Bhind (MP).

The allegations revolved around Jitendra Singh, who had reportedly filled two application forms for the Police Constable Recruitment-2012 with different residential addresses and examination centers.

He arranged for an impersonator, Jaideep Singh, to appear in one of the centers, leading to fraudulent activities during the examination process.

The convicted individuals, Jitendra Singh, Jaideep Singh, Narendra Singh, and Amit Sachan, were found guilty of conspiring to secure Jitendra Singh’s selection in the PCRT- 2012 through deceptive means.

The trial court, after a thorough investigation, convicted them, and the sentencing was delivered on Wednesday.

In another case, the CBI made an arrest involving Deputy Chief Engineer-II (IRSE 2006) Harish Kumar, Northern Railways, Charbagh, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and the contractor Virendra Tomar and his son Prashant Tomar of M/s Tomar Construction. They were allegedly involved in a bribery case of Rs. 5 lakh, with accusations of demanding bribes for expeditious processing of due payments.

Furthermore, in a separate incident, the CBI apprehended Inspector Sunil Tondwal of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), posted at Rohini, Delhi, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000/- from a complainant.

The case involved the issuance of a license for establishing a Bar/Restaurant in Rohini, with assurances of no challan, no sealing of the bar, and unhindered license renewal, all contingent on the bribe.

The CBI, acting on the complaint, successfully laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs. 30,000/- from the complainant.
