Top 10 Universities in India 2022: NIRF Announces University Rankings in India

The universities are ranked considering factors such as intake, total strength, and research facility among many others

INDIA: The National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2022 released the list of top universities in India in July this year. The list consisted of a hundred universities.

These Indian universities were ranked considering various factors such as total intake, total strength, research facilities, placements, projects, financial resources, NAAC accreditation, etc. The list includes central, private, state, and deemed universities.

The top spot in the prestigious list was claimed by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. It was followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, in second place. The Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi was ranked 3rd.

1. Indian Institute of Science

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore offers admission to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.

The IISc admission in B.Sc. is offered on the basis of the candidate’s performance in KVPY, JEE, or NEET-UG, while admission to 56 postgraduate courses is offered through GATE scores.

2. Jawaharlal Nehru University

JNU was established in the year 1969 and is ranked 2nd among the top 10 universities in India. JNU is one of the most prominent universities in social sciences, foreign languages, applied sciences, etc.

3. Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia University offers 256 courses at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels.

There are Jamia Millia Islamia University courses offered in full-time, part-time, and online modes.

4. Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University was ranked 4th among the top 10 universities in India as per the NIRF ranking. The university offers diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, as well as doctorate-level courses.

5. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

Ranked 5th is the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The university has campuses in Amritapuri, Amaravati, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Mysuru (Mysore).

6. Banaras Hindu University

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, was ranked 6th. The university, founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916, offers diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate level programmes in Science, Commerce, and Arts streams.

7. Manipal Academy of Higher Education

Manipal Academy of Higher Education, situated in Karnataka, is one of the top-ranked universities in India at rank 7.

The university has two off-campuses in Mangaluru (Mangalore) and Bengaluru (Bangalore). It offers a whopping 300+ courses in 31 disciplines.

8. University of Calcutta

University of Calcutta, established in 1857, was ranked 8th on the list. The university provides courses in various fields, such as sciences, arts, humanities, social sciences, engineering, architecture, and computer application.

It also offers courses like BA LLB, B.Lib.Sc, BA Library and Information Studies Hons, BA, M.Com, MSc, LLB, MPhil, MA, Ph.D., and many more.

9. Vellore Institute of Technology

The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) was ranked 9th. The VIT offers 64 undergraduate, 35 postgraduate, 16 integrated, 2 research programs, and 2 M.Tech industrial programmes.

VIT conducts its entrance examination for some of its courses, while admission for other courses is done through merit.

10. University of Hyderabad

The 10th rank on the list was taken by the University of Hyderabad. The university offers a multitude of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The admission is done based on the applicant’s performance in the CUET PG exam.
