INDIA: Indian maverick cricketer Virat Kohli became the fastest player to reach 25,000 runs in international cricket. This marks another historic milestone in his career.

Virat Kohli’s performance sets a new record

He achieved this milestone During the third day of the second Test match between India and Australia. In doing so, Kohli eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar, the Master Blaster and Kohli’s idol, who had accomplished the feat in 577 games.

In contrast, Virat accomplished this feat in 549 games. Kohli and Sachin are followed by Ricky Ponting (588), Jacques Kallis (594), Kumar Sangakkara (608) and Mahela Jayawardene (701).

Virat took the crease for India with the early departures of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. While Rohit got off to a strong start and lost his wicket after a mix-up with Cheteshwar Pujara, Rahul, who continued his terrible trend, could only manage 1 run.

Virat made a few beautiful shots and made it apparent that he intended to end the run-chase as soon as possible. However, just as Kohli appeared to be in control, Todd Murphy dismissed him for 20 runs off 31 balls.

Virat’s dismissal in the first innings sparked a lot of controversies, and the umpires were heavily criticised across social media.

As you can see in the image that there is no conclusive evidence of whether the ball struck the pad or bat first, and as per the rules of cricket, the benefit of the doubt always goes to batsmen.

Although in the end, India defeated Australia by 6 wickets and claimed back-to-back test victories. Thanks to a heroic knock of 74 from all-rounder Axar Patel supported by Ravichandran Ashwin’s valuable 37 runs in the first innings.

Ravindra Jadeja completed another five-wicket haul (7/42) which bundled Australia for 113 runs in the second innings, and the target was ultimately chased by India.
