UNITED STATES. Virginia. Unreasonable Kids is a social enterprise with one goal to train the next generation of Kid-Superheroes, a Newport News, Virginia based non-profit founded by Ateba Gaines. Unreasonable Kids has been selected by the UN SDG Action Campaign as one of the Solidarity Award’s featured stories, a special call from the annual UN SDG Action Awards 2020.
In response to COVID-19, Unreasonable Kids created a virtual empowerment series where aspiring social entrepreneurs could tune in to free virtual sessions and connect with social entrepreneurs around the world. Participants pitched their social entrepreneurship ideas and collaborated with industry professionals to build solutions to community problems.
Solidarity and determination to improve others lives. The Unreasonable Kids empowerment series overcame the challenge of being restricted to social distancing and utilized an unexpectedly dark, isolated season as an opportunity to spark creativity and connection beyond borders. As a result of Unreasonable Kids commitment to building sustainable communities and training the next generation of superheroes, community leaders around the world, navigating a challenging present, came together to strategize a better tomorrow.
Marina Ponti, Global Director, UN SDG Action Campaign, said, “We need hope, we need Solidarity, and we need creative and coordinated action on the Goals. During the global health crisis, we see powerful examples of Solidarity among people everywhere. Acts of kindness and Solidarity are burgeoning, helping neighborhoods, communities, and people everywhere to adapt to the new norm. We congratulate Unreasonable Kids for their Solidarity and determination to improve others’ lives, inspire resilience, and lift hopes in the face of this crisis.”
