INDIA: The Kashmir Files’ famed director Vivek Agnihotri, made his presence felt in a podcast alongside filmmaker Sudhir Mishra. The bold, dynamic and outspoken director who dares to bring forth the heated topics of the nation into the big screens through his movies talked about some untouched topics of Bollywood.

Vivek Agnihotri revealed that he is completely boycotted from the Hindi film industry for his bold take on addressing real facts through his films. He also claimed that besides him and actor Kangana Ranaut, no one else questioned Bollywood.

He said, “Who questioned Bollywood in 4-5 years? Except for Kangana and me?”

Agnihotri added, “In this industry, I’ve been boycotted. I’ve found refuge in those from the middle class. When I spoke with the housewives, they expressed concern about the over-exposure and vulgar show of physical attitude. People are annoyed because films do not address important issues.”

Further, taking a jibe at Karan Johar’s unrealistic storylines in his films, he asked about the national atmosphere, whether the youth shown in the film Student of the Year is the real-life youth of the country or it’s just creating a bubble.

The Tashkent files director said, “I say this without malice, but if you look at the youth in those films and the youth on the roadways of the country, you won’t find the youth depicted in the films. When I saw Deewar, I immediately related to it; I looked at Amitabh Bachchan and thought, ‘Oh, I also have this problem.’ Today, however, there is no relatability. Why are you disregarding the audience’s sensibilities?”

The filmmaker stated that how Kangana and he have the zeal to stand against the wrongdoing of Bollywood and raise a voice against it.

Vivek said, “If the establishment does anything wrong, we have the right to call it out; at the very least, intellectuals and liberals should. As a result, the film industry is also an establishment. Those who criticise the state should not do so without first examining the establishment from which they make a living. So, outside Kangana and me, who has questioned Bollywood? And why should I be disturbed if I dispute the industry’s practises?”
