INDIA: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been making headlines for quite a long now but for all the wrong reasons. The chief has been accused of sexual harassment by seven women wrestlers.

Following the prolonged protest, the first First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the BJP politician and WFI Chief, based on all the allegations made by a minor wrestler, which was registered under POCSO Act. As per reports, both FIRs have been registered at the Canott Place police station.

The wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Mailk, resumed their protest against the WFI Chief at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on April 23. Amid this, the Delhi Police reported to the apex court that it would log an FIR against Bhusan Sharan over the sexual harassment charges.

The SC on Friday heard the wrestlers’ petition seeking registration of an FIR against Wrestling Federation India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted the report before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y Chandrachud, “We have chosen to file an FIR, and we will do so today. Nothing else survives…” said the Delhi Police representative.

The wrestlers demanded an urgent registration of an FIR against Singh. However, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha called the protesters indisciplined. She stated that their actions are tarnishing the country’s image. Meanwhile, the Bollywood actress turned politician Urmila Matondkar extended her support to the protesting women wrestlers.

Besides this, Sangeeta Phogat called for justice, and said, “Justice wasn’t served to us earlier. Previously, we fought for justice, and now we continue to fight for justice. We’ll keep doing it until the accused is made to pay. We shall thus keep protesting here.”

He has been accused of sexual harassment by the girls. Hence a FIR should be filed, and he should be held accountable for his actions. As you can see, nobody visited us, and we never got a call. Nobody has assured us that justice will be served,” she added.
