NIGERIA. Niger state: The Niger state agricultural sector is set to receive a boost as the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has signed the Niger state Agricultural Policy Document.
The document is meant to improve agricultural development and attract investment in the state.
The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Idris Usman, told Transcontinental Times after meeting with stakeholders in the agricultural sector in Niger state, that the Governor has signed the document.
“With the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) support, we have been able to develop the Niger state agricultural policy and Niger state investment plan which has just been signer by the Governor. The document will soon be made public to everyone.”
Usman said that the state Ministry of Agriculture has not had a policy document for the past seven years.

The Niger state Agricultural Policy Document will help the agricultural sector in the state to function properly, attract investors, improve extension services, and chart a course for sustainable economic growth and development.
The Programme Officer of (AGRA) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mallam Alhassan Umar, said that everything to move the state agricultural sector is encapsulated in the document. All stakeholders and actors have their role captured in the policy document.
Several donor agencies have commended the state government for signing the agricultural policy document.
The Representative of the Feed the Future Project, Nosa Osunde, said the signing is a promising indicator for the robust development of the agricultural sector.
The Consultant to Synergos Limited, Gladys Amaindamhen, commended the state government for signing the policy document saying that the state needs to start looking at the sustainability plan to ensure the survival of the project when the donors have gone.
