NIGERIA: Progress Chukwuyem, a 21-year-old Delta State native, has been crowned the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 7.

The talented Delta-state-born singer, songwriter, performer, and music minister defeated his closest rival, Zadok, to win the the reality show.

Chukwuyem, on the other hand, walked away with N30 million, a brand new SUV, a Big branded refrigerator, a year’s supply of Bigi drinks, and the title of ambassador.

A record EP and music video, a weekend getaway from TravelBeta, and a fully installed DStv Explora with a 12-month premium subscription are among the other prizes.

According to IK Osakioduwa, the show’s host, more than 45 million votes were cast in the final stage, and more than 200 million votes were cast over the course of the nine-week event.

The competition’s final stage began in February, and it was hosted by media personality IK, with singer Simi, music entrepreneur Obi Asika, and superstar singer and producer D’Banj serving as judges.

Zadok, the first runner-up, was seen humming Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” song. 

D’Banj, who performed his hit song “I’m on top of the world and Emergency,” was another impressive performance.

Next up was Progress, who performed Ariana Grande’s “Bang Bang,” followed by Simi, who performed her hit single “Dudukuke.”

Finally, ten of the top twelve evicted contestants take the stage with season six winner Kingdom Krose to perform his new song “Father’s Got It All.”
