INDIA. Uttar Pradesh: The terrorist arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur was tasked with killing former BJP leader Nupur Sharma and was controlled by Pak-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, state police said on Friday.

Nupur Sharma was suspended as a BJP spokesperson after her comments about the Prophet sparked huge protests in India and a number of official complaints from Gulf countries.

The terrorist has been identified as Mohammed Nadeem of Gangoh village in Saharanpur, police said. The 25-year-old accepted that he was tasked by a Jaish Pakistan terrorist to kill Nupur Sharma, a top official said.

The terrorist has also named his Indian accomplices in the case and an investigation is underway, police said. Mohammed Nadeem was set to travel to Pakistan for weapons training, revealing his phone records and messages, police said.

His phone records also show a complete course on how to build an improvised explosive device or IED, police said. Additionally, chat and voice messages with Jaish and Thereek-e-Taliban, police said, were recovered from Mohammed Nadeem’s phone.

Police said Mohammed Nadeem was in touch with terror groups through WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Club House and other social media.

It’s no surprise that the incident comes just over a month after a tailor in Udaipur and a pharmacist in Amravati were murdered by assailants for supporting Nupur Sharma over a social media post. Investigations in both cases are still being carried out.
