Novak Djokovic Optimistic About Tennis’ Future with the Rise of Carlos Alcaraz

ITALY: Novak Djokovic, at 36, won three of the four Grand Slams in 2023 and believes he will continue to do so. However, he also believes that young star Carlos Alcaraz will lead tennis in the future, as his defeat at Wimbledon marked the changing of the guard in men’s tennis.

Djokovic bounced back to win his 24th US Open, a record, after defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a Cincinnati final. He expressed confidence in tennis’s future with Carlos leading the field, mentioning one of the best three-set matches he’s ever played, including Roland Garros and the Cincinnati. He added that this year’s Wimbledon final was also a highlight.

The tennis player expressed his admiration for the rivalries between Andy Murray and Roger Federer, stating that they rank high in the sport. He hoped to continue playing with Alcaraz as frequently as he did with other players, hoping to continue playing for many years to come.

Djokovic described his year as “fantastic.” The Serb went on to say that Grand Slams are the ones that matter the most to him at this point in his career since they are where he wants to play his best tennis.

The tennis star stated that he couldn’t have asked for more this year after winning three out of four Slams and another final.

The No. 2 player in the world, Alcaraz, enjoys competing against Djokovic. He remarked, referring to Djokovic’s victories in Cincinnati and Flushing Meadows, “We have a really beautiful battle to be world No. 1, especially after the great performance Novak had in America.”

Alcaraz is motivated to win the race for the top spot, keeping it in mind during exercise and prior to every competition. He emphasizes setting targets for the year and aiming to be No. 1.
