Australia Thrash West Indies To Win Series 2-1

Mitchell Starc was named the Man Of The Series for picking up 11 wickets in three matches

WEST INDIES: Australia defeated West Indies by 6 wickets in the 3rd and final ODI match of the 3-match ODI series. The Australian side won the ODI series 2-1. Previously, they lost the T20I series against West Indies but they came back stronger to win the ODI series 2-1.

West Indies innings

In this ODI after winning the toss, West Indies opted to bat first. Evin Lewis and Shai Hope were opening the West Indian batting in this 3rd ODI. When Lewis was batting he got hit by a bouncer from Josh Hazlewood and was forced to retired hurt after that blow.

Shimron Hetmyer then replaced Lewis. At that moment West Indies were 14/0. Hetmyer couldn’t contribute much as he got out after scoring just 6 runs. Soon after that Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran got out and West Indies were struggling at 46/3 after 14 overs. Darren Bravo got out after scoring 18 off 36 deliveries.

Skipper Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder were at the crease after the fall of 4th wicket. Pollard hit a huge six at the start of his innings but after that he couldn’t score much as he got out after scoring 11 off 24 deliveries and West Indies were struggling at 71/5 after 22.1 overs.

After the Pollard’s wicket, Lewis came out to bat again. Soon after Pollard’s dismissal, Holder also got out after scoring just 5 runs off 15 deliveries. Lewis then tried to score some runs and scored a brilliant 55 off just 66 deliveries which included 5 fours and 3 huge sixes.

Alzzari Joseph was playing a good supporting role but he got out after scoring 15 runs and soon after that West Indies bundled out for 152 runs in 45.1 overs. Lewis remained not out. For Australia, Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets whereas Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar took 2 wickets each and Ashton Turner took 1 wicket.

Josh Phillipe and Moises Henriques opened the batting for Australia. But both of them got out early. Australia lost both of their openers under 8 overs. After their dismissal, the scoreboard read were 27/2 after 7.2 overs. After that, Australian skipper Alex Carey and Mitchell Marsh joined forces to help Australia recover. They stitched up a 38 run partnership after which Mitchell Marsh got out and Australia were 65/3 after 13.4 overs.

Matthew Wade joined the Australian skipper Alex Carey at the middle. They both put up a 34 run partnership and after that Carey got out after scoring 35 runs off 50 deliveries.

Ashton Agar was the next batsman for Australia and both him and Matthew Wade put up a 54 run stand to take Australia home. Mathhew Wade scored a beautiful half-century. He scored 51 off 52 deliveries which included 5 fours and 2 sixes whereas Ashton Agar scored 19 off 33 deliveries which included 3 fours.

Ashton Agar was adjudged the Man of the Match for scoring 19 runs and picking up 2/31 in his 10 overs spell.
