Bangladesh Defeats Australia By 23 Runs To Win The First T20I Match

Bangladesh: Bangladesh defeats Australia by 23 runs to win the first T20I match of the 5-match T20I series between Australia’s tour of Bangladesh. It is Australia’s fifth loss in their last six games.

After winning the toss, Australia decided to bowl first. Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Naim opened the batting for Bangladesh. Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the form of Soumya Sarkar who got out after scoring 2 runs off 9 balls. Bangladesh was 15/1 after 3.3 overs. Bangladesh was scoring runs at a poor run rate as they were 73/3 after 12.2 overs scoring at 5.9 runs per over.

For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan scored 36 off 33 balls and Bangladeshi Opener Mohammad Naim scored 30 runs off 29 balls. Afif Hossain played a good cameo inning of 23 runs of 17 deliveries but Bangladesh Couldn’t score at a good run rate and Australia kept picking wickets and after 20 overs Bangladesh scored 131/7. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3/24 after his 4 overs spell whereas Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets and Andrew Tye and Adam Zampa took 1 wicket each.

Australia had a disastrous start as they lost 3 wickets for just 11 runs after 2.1 overs. Australian skipper Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh tried to reinstate the Australian innings but after Matthew Wade got out Australia couldn’t build a stable partnership. Mitchell Marsh was the lone warrior for Australia but none of the other Australian Batsmen supported him from the other end. Bangladesh spinners kept demolishing the Australian batting order.

Mitchell Marsh scored 45 off 45 deliveries which included 4 fours and a six. Australia kept losing wickets and Australia bundled out for 108/10 after 20 overs. For Bangladesh, Nasum Ahmed picked up 4/19 in his four overs spell whereas Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Rahman picked up 2 wickets while Mahedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan each picked up 1 wicket.

Bangladesh now leads this 5-match T20I series 1-0. Bangladesh’s spinners took- 13-0-71-6.
