UNITED STATES: The premiere of the movie “Barbie” in Los Angeles on Sunday night featured a pink carpet filled with self-proclaimed Barbie Girls.

Shortly before the highly anticipated Greta Gerwig film debuted at the Shrine Auditorium in front of a crowded theatre, Margot Robbie, the lead actress in Barbie, had an encounter with the OG Barbie, rapper Nicki Minaj.

It’s the latest in a string of meta moments in and surrounding the WB movie, with Robbie—wearing a special Schiaparelli gown that paid homage to 1960’s “Solo in the Spotlight Barbie”—posing alongside Minaj, who has called herself a Barbie since the beginning of her career. Minaj’s most recent track, “Barbie World,” a collaboration with Ice Spice that remixes Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl,” serves as the movie’s end title song.

To the delight of eager fans outside the Shrine Auditorium, hoping for a glimpse of the magical Barbie collaboration, the two superstar celebrities fulfilled their dreams, with the pretty duo exuding beauty for photographers. At one point during the photo shoot, Robbie kneeled down to ensure Minaj’s ultra-long locks lay perfectly.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Robbie told the media, “Oh, my God, that was iconic. I’m dying. I’m going to have to take a minute later to be like, ‘Wow, I actually just got a picture with Nicki Minaj.'”

On Monday noon, Minaj praised Robbie, describing her as “strikingly gorgeous in person.”

She also shared her initial review of the film, which is set to hit theatres on July 21. “Btw, the entire cast of this movie nailed it. The film is so visually stimulating. The actors can actually act, & the comedic timing is actually on time. Bravo. I’ll see it again & give my final analysis around the 21st. Will Ferrell, I💖U,” she wrote.

According to America Ferrera, Nicki Minaj’s tune on this album is incredible. The actress commended Minaj for creating the new version of “Barbie Girl” song, which earlier become ingrained in people’s thoughts as one thing.

“She’s a badass… I’m saying nightly prayers to every woman who is out there, being who they are unapologetically. I feel like she’s one of them. You gotta love Nicki,” America Ferrera told the US-based media.

The feeling of admiration was mutual, with Minaj herself describing the experience as a “full circle moment,” given that she has been incorporating Barbie references into her overall style, brand, and music since her early mixtape days and called her devoted fanbase the Barbz.

When asked about her involvement, Minaj expressed her excitement at attending the premiere and being a part of the entire event. The rapper thanked the entire team for thinking of her because she, like everyone else, is excited to see the film.
