GERMANY: BMW has been producing Clubsport models to represent the CSL’s successor since the E9 era.

The M3 of the previous generation was given the CS treatment at the end of 2017 to make it stronger and lighter, and its successor is breaking cover today using the same recipe.

The 2024-spec BMW M3 CS is available only with an automatic transmission, just like the F80 model, but there is a significant difference.

While the M3 CS before had RWD, the new model now has xDrive with selectable RWD.

The twin-turbo 3.0-litre “S58” engine fitted by the BMW M engineers unlocks 543 HP and perfectly matches the RWD-only M4 CSL.

Since the extremely rare 3.0 CSL has 553 HP, it is not the most potent inline-six in the company’s history. Compared to the M3 Competition xDrive, which serves as the foundation for the CS, the peak torque of 479 pound-feet (650 Newton meters) remains unchanged.

A carbon fibre-reinforced plastic diet helps the M3 CS shed approximately 75 pounds (34 kilograms) and pack 40 HP more.

The BMW M3 CS hood, front splitter, air intakes, side mirror caps, rear diffuser, and trunk lid spoiler are all made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic.

The shift paddles inside the car, the centre console, and the trim strips are also made of the same lightweight but durable material as the roof.

The M3 CS accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, two-tenths of a second faster than the Competition xDrive.

The sedan’s electronically controlled top speed of 188 mph (303 km/h) is made possible by the M Driver’s Package, which comes standard with the car.

The M3 CS is finished in the Individual catalogue’s striking Signal Green and has yellow daytime running lights, similar to those on the M4 CSL, M5 CS, and race cars.

The front bumper has remained unchanged, but the grille’s contour is finished in red, just like the hardcore coupe. In addition, the M4 CSL is replicated in the exposed carbon fibre sections of the hood.

Customers won’t have to settle for the green paint because BMW will also sell the super sedan in a frozen solid white individual colour and metallic paints in Black Sapphire and Brooklyn Grey.

Electric and heated front seats in Merino leather with accents in Mugello red feature illuminated “CS” logos. The M3’s door sill plates don the “M3 CS” badge.

An Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and seatbelts in the renowned M colours complete the interiors.

BMW will produce the M3 CS in “limited numbers,” but the exact number has not been made public.

The car will be less exclusive than the M4 CSL, of which only 1,000 are being produced worldwide.

The sporty sedan in US specification will begin production at the Munich plant in March, starting at $118,700 with an additional $995 based on its destination and handling.
