UNITED STATES: Four gun control bills were signed by Colorado’s governor this Friday after the other state’s gesture to combat a greater number of violent crimes and mass shootings happening countrywide in spite of the fresh Supreme Court ruling by the US that puts more scope into the Second Amendment Rights.

Gun rights groups launched lawsuits to invalidate two of the measures raising the minimum age needed to purchase a gun from 18 to 21 and establishing a three-day wait period between the moment a gun is purchased and when it actually is received, even before Gov. Jared Polis‘ signature was even dry. Courts in additional states are currently weighing litigation over these restrictions.

The new measures, which Democrats forced through despite late-night Republican filibusters, have the goal of reducing adolescent murder and rates of suicide, stopping mass shootings, and providing victims of gun violence recourse in court to challenge the traditionally adequately safeguarded weapons industry. A mass shooting at an LGBTQ bar in Colorado Springs spurred their enactment only five months after.

Polis mentioned as he signed the measures, “Coloradoans deserve to be safe in our communities, in our schools, in our grocery stores, in our nightclubs.”

Republicans criticised the bills as burdensome intrusions on Second Amendment rights that would stop the inhabitants of Colorado’s capability from helping themselves in light of an augmenting crime rate in the state.

The Republican minority leader, Mike Lynch, states, “Colorado is becoming one of the states that is one of the most anti-Second Amendment, which is a sad day for the state.”

Lynch advocates that even though the shootings that had taken place in Colorado Springs were held to pass gun laws like these, “evidence shows they would’ve done absolutely nothing to stop that.”

Lynch predicts that the magnitude of the gun regulation measures, collectively with other legislation Democrats pushed this year, might cause a backlash in the coming presidential election, especially among swing areas that support Democrats’ control of the legislature.
