INDIA. Mumbai: Eight persons died and a few others were injured when a Bolero van carrying them fell into a gorge in the Satpuda mountain range in Nandurbar districts in North Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon.

The mishap occurred on Toranmal- Siddhidigar Road, near Dhadgaon in the district, around 450 km from Mumbai. The car was on its way to Siddhimal village from Khadki Point in Toranmal, a hill station in the district, when the driver lost control over the vehicle, due to which it veered off the road and fell into the gorge. A few occupants managed to jump out of the vehicle in the nick of time.

State police control room sources said that some persons were injured in the incident and they were undergoing treatment at Toranmal hospital. The Mhasawad police are investigating and further details were awaited. The news of the mishap reached late since there is no network of any telecom company in the area.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and condoled the deaths of those who died in a car accident. Apart from condoling the deaths, the PM announced Rs. 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased while Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.

In a tweet, the PM wrote, “Tragic news from Nandurbar, Maharashtra. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in an accident. Prayers with the injured. Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.”
